At the time I was shooting a Mamiya RB67 professionally; exclusively running Fuji Velvia through it for magazine covers and editorial work. I had a medium format enlarger that I used with black and white film for fun, so I thought the Nettar would make a nice travel camera. Zeiss Ikon Nettar II I only shot a couple of rolls with it back then.
The lens did not impress me much with its sharpness. Anyway, the camera sat in a cupboard for 25 years. I pulled it out every now and again, but the shutter had stuck, so I would just admire it and put it back.
InI started shooting a bit of 35mm film again for one of my art projects. I wanted square format, so I was using an Agfa Rapid that shot 24x24mm on film. It was too small and fiddly to handle; not organic enough. I pulled the Nettar II out again.
Camera review – the Zeiss Ikon Nettar II 517/16 6×6 folding camera – by David Hume
Lo and behold, the shutter was working perfectly! I took this as a sign and bought myself a pro pack of Kodak Portra They made a lot of folding cameras — and the Nettars were the cheap ones, but shared bodies with the more expensive Ikontas.
This camera is very basic, even for the early s when it was made. Shutter speeds, aperture and focus all happen up the front around the lens. All the action is up front.
It is tough. There are no batteries or electronics to bug you. Landscapes when you are out hiking or travelling. I have a thing about the square format at the moment. I figured for my personal photo work I would stick to square as well. I like the shop scans I get from it, but I really like to show the edges of the frame, so that mean scanning the film myself, which I do with a light box and DSLR. Let me explain. So I can use it in in a way I never could have back in the day.
Having said that, I did shoot a couple of my daughter to finish a roll, and yeah, I got one I liked. The cost of admission is very low if you want to pick one up and take it for a spin.

With everything working as it should and a third party rangefinder stuck in the accessory shoe it is great for more than just landscapes which is admittedly what I bought it for. The size, as mentioned above, is ideal.
When folded it fits in a jacket pocket. That said, I have started a savings fund for a Mamiya 6 rangefinder.Discussion in ' Classic Manual Cameras ' started by kdghantousJul 12, What's cheaper than a Holga yet is probably better built and gives results that would not be shamed by professional equipment? Old folding cameras, that's what. And so I introduce to you the Zeiss Ikon Nettar. We are in love. Or, rather, I am in love with it.
And I get the feeling that I'll have a few mistresses along the way. My neighbour wants me to sell her late husband's camera stuff and this was in that lot along with a Rollei !
I didn't think too much of it initially, but I thought that as it was such a sunny day I'd put a roll in it and just take a few snaps out on the street. I had some film that I had bought for my recently acquired Pentax kit which I haven't yet used.
I put in a roll of Ektacolor and took some photos on the street and then in my backyard. During this process something magical happened. I'm sure you all know the feeling. This thing made me smile. And so I put in a second roll and went out for a walk for about an hour. Below are just a few of the successful frames. Overall I found that I liked 9 out of a total of They're now in my gallery. When I was young and very inexperienced I used to feel sorry for people who didn't have access to multiple options - a tonne of lenses, super-wide apertures, flashguns, filters etc.
Well of course as your grow wiser you gradually realize what is useful and what is frippery. And I think that a better idea for a standard lens might be a 28mm equivalent, not a 50mm. However, you could argue that the choice is arbitrary. So I was happy to let the good people at Zeiss make the choice for me. I developed a standard way of using it so that I'd know exactly where I was: after the first photo, I wind the film to the next exposure.
And I don't cock the shutter until I'm ready to take the next photo. Initially I made a few mistakes, like forgetting to wind the film between exposures. But, hey, that's what practice is for. My light meter was an iPhone app. If I didn't have that, I would have just used a look-up table and erred on the side of overexposure.
I rated the film at to be on the safe side. I would not be confident using slide film in this camera without an accurate light meter.

Iceland is a beautiful country filled with magnificent landscapes, spectacular waterfalls and fascinating cultural history. That is why we returned for a third visit. Knowing how popular Iceland is as a destination and that there were four of us traveling, I thought that having assistance in setting up our tour from Nordic Visitor would be beneficial. It proved to be the best decision. She provided a great map with route, hotels and attractions marked and color-coded.
She highlighted some special places for lobster, ice cream and pool with a view. Thanks to Nordic visitor and especially Helga for a great trip. It was also very good value and I believe cheaper than had we tried to organise the same thing on our own. The accommodation all over Iceland was really excellent and some would be highlights or favorites we'll remember a long time Honestly felt nothing was left out and the trip couldn't have gone any better and all 6 of us that were on this are in full agreement on that.

Note that in the cases where we do want to include a continuous variable in a crosstabulation (e. The simplest form of crosstabulation is the 2 by 2 table where two variables are "crossed," and each variable has only two distinct values.
MALE FEMALE FEMALE FEMALE MALE. A B B A B. The resulting crosstabulation could look as follows. In general, this table shows us that more females than males chose the soda pop brand A, and that more males than females chose soda B. Thus, gender and preference for a particular brand of soda may be related (later we will see how this relationship can be measured).
The values in the margins of the table are simply one-way (frequency) tables for all values in the table. They are important in that they help us to evaluate the arrangement of frequencies in individual columns or rows.
Thus, the differences between the distributions of frequencies in individual rows (or columns) and in the respective margins informs us about the relationship between the crosstabulated variables. Column, Row, and Total Percentages. The example in the previous paragraph demonstrates that in order to evaluate relationships between crosstabulated variables, we need to compare the proportions of marginal and individual column or row frequencies.
Such comparisons are easiest to perform when the frequencies are presented as percentages. Graphical Representations of Crosstabulations. For analytic purposes, the individual rows or columns of a table can be represented as column graphs. However, often it is useful to visualize the entire table in a single graph. Stub-and-Banner tables, or Banners for short, are a way to display several two-way tables in a compressed form.
This type of table is most easily explained with an example.
Let us return to the survey of sports spectators example. In the table above, we see the two-way tables of expressed interest in Football by expressed interest in Baseball, Tennis, and Boxing. The table entries represent percentages of rows, so that the percentages across columns will add up to 100 percent.
For example, the number in the upper left hand corner of the Scrollsheet (92. Further down we can see that the percent of those always interested in watching football, given that they were always interested in watching tennis was 87.
The percentages in the last column (Row Total) are always relative to the total number of cases. Multi-way Tables with Control Variables.
